Our third demand is against Voluntary Student Unionism. The Labor Government have finally released the findings of their review into the effects of Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU) on students, and the results are not surprising in the least.
To summarise: VSU is destroying university life, essential student services, and our capacity to organize politically to stand up for ourselves. If you want more details, go to the DEWR website.
The SRC's Submission to the Higher Education Review
Submission and Responses to Questions for Discussion. Presented by Kate Laing President 4.8.08

We will be arguing for changes in income support for students. Changes include reducing the age of independence from 25 to 18 years of age, excepting scholarships from the income test, aligning payments to above the poverty line (currently they sit below it by roughly 25-30%), and by increasing the parental income threshold.
All universities in Australia have been breaking the law since 1988! The Higher Education Funding Act of 1988 stipulates that a higher education provider cannot charge fees for essential course materials. If you have to pay money for assessments: that’s illegal. If you have to pay money for lab equipment that cannot be accessed elsewhere: that’s illegal. If you have to pay money for course readers and notes, and there are not adequate supplies in the library: That’s illegal.
People from the Environment Collective have organised a plethora of workshops, forums and adventuresome romps based on their own interests. Interested in changing the world both on and off campus?
