Accommodation Rights

You have rights as a tenant.

  • Your rental accommodation should be ‘clean, habitable and secure’.
  • As a tenant your bond must be deposited with the Rental Bond Board of the Dept of Fair Trading.
  • You can say no to unauthorised visits by the landlord or agent.
  • There should be no rent increases in the fixed term of an agreement.
  • If you are tenant and you feel you are not secure ask the Landlord to provide better security - if they don’t they may become liable for any loses you incur.
  • If you move into an existing sharehouse ensure that you are put on the lease and that your bond is lodged with the Rental Boand Board.

The SRC has experienced caseworkers able to advise you about these and other Tenancy issues or problems. Make an appointment to see Don Sword, Melissa de Silva or the solicitor. We can help with private rental and University related accommodation.

Make an appointment by calling 9660 5222 or coming down to the SRC at level 1 of the Wentworth Building (below the overpass).
